Hello from California

Like many people I've killed my fair share of Flytraps following crappy growing instructions in the past [emoji25]

But last month I went to California Carnivores and was hooked.
I have 3 Sarracenias plus 3 more arriving next week.
I have 3 kinds of Drosera so far.
I have at least one type of terrestrial Utricularia.

S. Purple People Eater x Royal Ruby
this is my smallest Sarr.

I'm in Zone 9b and growing in full sun outside in trays of Zero TDS water.

I am so excited to have 3 new Sarr's arriving. But esp about getting
S. Leuco Hurricane Creek White Clone F

Welcome to the forum! I am tempted to order from C.C just to receive some hitchhikers, as I only have one sundew as of now. It's recovering from a long stretch of troubles, but things are looking up. Are you thinking of getting any Nepenthes?

I'm very limited on house space. My house is not sunny. My only sunny window has African Violets and Orchids. I'm thinking I may be able to hang a baby Nep [emoji6]
I bought a wee little Nep at CC but it was a gift for a friend.

I love my outdoor CPs but to get me thru winter, I went shopping on the Native Exotics site and got my first and only Nep so far.
Nepenthes ampullaria x spectabilis
TC from Borneo Exotics.

It has at least 4 open pitchers with possibly 2 more forming.

I know I could throw it into houseplant conditions...but my house is old and has little insulation.
So my temp set up is a big bowl.
Heat pad underneath.
Plant plot is sitting on a 2” glass riser.
All surrounded by presoaked dry Sphagnum.
Using a clamp light with a 12 watt LED spotlight style.

I draped a ziplock bag over the opening and it’s got humidity on the walls now. I do hope to harden it off once it’s older. Our winters get cold in my old farmhouse.

Temps are ranging from 74°f last night with light off. To 80°f with light on this morning.

I’ll be adding a hygrometer later.

I would be careful about growing that plant in an enviroment with very high humidity paired with completely stagnant air, its going to become very prone to root rot. Most people who grow in terrariums and grow tents have computer fans blowing around for proper air circulation, though I dont know what you could do with such a small container without nuking the humidity.

It’s not air tight. I do take the cover off. Plus I leave an opening.
This is a temp set up. I wanted to boost the humidity for a couple of days to help it recover from shipping.

It’s not sitting in water, so roots should not rot ?

The plastic bag is just draped over. I leave a gap. Midday I may take cover off completely. The large amount of damp Sphagnum should keep some humidity around the plant.

Thank you for the input. I’ve only had it set up less than 24 hours.

If its just a temporary setup you should be fine then.

Good luck!
