    I got some seeds that I can send you. It bloomed for me, but the flowers were kind of drab. I think it might be that it's too warm here (Kaimuki), as the plant is native to the mountains of Peru. I'm thinking that your conditions may bring out the colors. It's a type of bromeliad that gets to be 3' to 5' in diameter. Here's a warning, though, that the leaves have sharp needles, so it should be planted where people don't go near or can be kept away from -- or where you don't want people to go. Anyway, if you're interested, let me have your address. You can also ask others whom you know who live at high elevation.
