    Flowering ping ID?

I didn't receive it with any tag whatsoever, but here's a photo of the leaves. IMG_1948 by Dante1709, on Flickr The leaves are pale/bright green, thin, messy and some of them have dents. I hope that this is normal or shock from repotting, and not anything too serious.

    Flowering ping ID?

IMG_1913 by Dante1709, on Flickr I recently bought this Pinguicula at an orchid show ; I assumed it was moranensis but the vendor informed me that he did indeed own moranensis, and the particular plant being sold wasn't labeled as it. I'm curious to see what type of ping it is (Mexican...

How do you decide which Nepenthes to get?

I pretty much do the same for all my desired plants, then if there are any significant cons, I'll add them ; i.e., plants requiring dormancies are noted, or any factor that might be difficult to provide.

How do you decide which Nepenthes to get?

I'm a bit OCD (in the actual meaning of the disorder) when it comes to choosing what plants to get. Often, I'll just dress a list of what I want, do a bit of research on their care, check them off, and narrow down the plants based on 1. What is available 2. What is more likely to thrive in my...

Crushed lava rock instead of sand?

What about red lava rock? I'm no expert on chemistry and what minerals Nepenthes are sensitive to, so what I'm asking is : does red lava rock leach significant amounts of harmful minerals, and can those minerals be washed from the stone?

plants growing very long flower stems...

I think what w03 is trying to say is ; it doesn't matter how much light you are giving it now, the plant itself is obviously displaying symptoms of inadequate lighting. It might look like the plant is receiving lots of light, but the plant uses a different spectrum of light to photosynthesize.

    NOID Oncidium

Looks gorgeous! It's probably Onc. Sharry Baby. A variety of it, "Sweet fragrance" has a cherry-like scent, if I'm not mistaken. Either way, it's a very popular hybrid and I'd be willing to get you have some form of it. I'm waiting for mine to go into spike anytime now. I love those hanging...

Old leaf tip turning tar black?

Oh, thank goodness. I just thought it was odd how it transitioned so quickly, and from yellow to dark black. What would root rot look like, though? I've heard that it starts at the growing tip, but then logic tells me it would start from the base, and I've always been curious about it.

Old leaf tip turning tar black?

I've had this ventricosa for almost a year now, and it's been doing great. Two lower leaves are yellowing, and I first thought it was just age. A few days ago, however, I noticed that the oldest leaf has a very dark tip to it, as if someone covered it with charcoal dust. All the other leaves...

    N. Ventricosa not growing pitchers

I agree with all of the above. Usually during cold temps, low humidity and/or periods of acclimation, my ventricosa also produces no/very little pitchers. Humidity trays do very little for humidity ; try something along to lines of creating a grow tent, or purchasing a cheap humidifier to help out.

    More neps to consider

That's completely contradictory. Species that no longer exist in their historic range are considered extinct in the wild by the IUCN. There could be thousands of the plants in captivity or out of their natural distribution, but the fact is, they are still considered extinct in the wild. When...

    Unknow orchid

I want to say some type of Sophronitis because of the long leaves and petioles, as well as the thick roots. However, I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to all the different types of orchids. Sedirea japonica is possible but I don't see the same leave structure. I would perhaps guess...
