unknown outdoor plant/shrub

What is this plant/shrub? They are growing outside my apartment door. They are very eye-catching and seem quite hardy. The owner-manager of the property does not know the name. I'm sure it is some common lawn ornamentation type of plant.

That is Hosta. Comes in every shape, texture and color you can think of. My favorite are the blue and giant varieties. They also have attractive, but simple flowers, but I've always heard that if you cut them off it will increase the clump's size. They'll grow almost anywhere and can take a lot of neglect. We have... God knows how many between home and the lake house. Don't even fertilize them, but they'd do way better if we did. In my experience of being around Hosta for 18 years, the fastest we have is without a doubt H. undulata. You can see that here: http://www.vanbloem.com/_ccLib/image/plants/DETA-880.jpg . I'm not crazy about the white.... Of course if we weren't lazy and fertilized everything, that could change for all I know.

If everyone has to have at least one garden foliage plant, it's Hosta! I am not fond of the dwarf varieties with lanceolate leaves, however. I'm not fond of Hosta with lanceolate leaves, period. I just learned they're related to Agave! I had no idea, but when you look at the flowers it makes sense! There are like five thousand cultivars. You can look at them until your eyes bleed, here.
