Yes this was a joke. The plant is a Nasc S.rubra that was saved from a site that was destroyed by logging activity. Most of the plants were destroyed. Only a few survived. Most of the surviving plants were replanted into a nearby preserve. This plant was along the edges of the woods and was sun starved. Thank you all for your support. You are the reason this plant was not destroyed like most of the others from this site.
Good job on the rescue. A pox on those who allow logging on sensitive sites. One person can get fined many thousands of $ for illegally taking one plant, a leaser or landowner can do the same thing to hundreds or thousands and walk away clean. At least a few places in Texas are truly protected when endangered species are involved.
