New York City Carnivorous Plant Society (NYCCPS)

Hey guys,

After being inspired by the awesome meetups and trips other growers have been having for so long, I decided to create the NYCCPS to help bring together all of New York's local growers, and I'm very happy to announce that our first meeting was a huge success! (That's me in the back.) This meeting was hosted by Dom Gravine, and the following pictures are from his amazing greenhouse.

This is quite amazing!

Very cool. How often do you plan to hold meetings?

Sounds like you guys had fun. Hopefully you can keep it going!

Thanks! We're planning on holding monthly meetings, and then possibly adding meetings for trips to wild locations or plant/reptile expos.

Sounds like you guys had fun. Hopefully you can keep it going!
We did! It was awesome! Thanks for the inspiration your Portland meetup discussions have provided. You guys definitely lit a fire under me to get something started on this side of the country. I knew there were a few growers here, but not as many as I've been seeing showing interest on the group page.

Hats off to you, Doomsday! Looks like an awesome place to visit and nice photos too. You certainly have my best wishes for continuing success with your group!

Thank you! A lot of the members have been helping out a ton, with bringing in new people and helping set up future plans and such. Also, Dom's greenhouse is ridiculous. He's a pro at maximizing every square inch of grow space. It really looks like he cut out a perfect section of the jungle, and put it into his greenhouse.

I agree! I'm pretty hyped for the future of the group. Everyone has great ideas for things to do.

So far, we've had one meeting at Dom's house, we took a trip to the Bronx Botanical Garden's Orchid Show, we took a trip to the Whiteplains Reptile Expo, and had our fourth meeting at my place.

Hey fellow CP enthusiasts, I see you have started a CP club in NYC. Not to step on your toes, but I'd like to let you all know about another regional CP club that is just forming. We are calling ourselves the Mid-Atlantic Carnivorous Plant Society. We have had two meetings so far and our next is scheduled for Jan 13, 2018 at Princeton University. It will be hosted by the student Botanical Club.

Here is a sneak peak at the announcement soon to be posted up on Terraforums. But just wanted you all to know about what is happening in the Mid-Atlantic area.

The Mid-Atlantic Carnivorous Plant Society (MACPS) www.macpsociety.com/ is currently in a start-up phase and we are seeing some pretty good interest so far. We have had two meetings so far. The first was held on Sat June 17, 2017 at the Carnivorous Plant Nursery in Smithburg, MD. The second was held on Sat Sept. 30, 2017 at Millersville University, Lancaster area, PA. In each of these meetings, lunch was provided and some very informative talks were presented. The meeting ended with a plant auction, with plants provided by attendees and the Carnivorous Plant Nursery. Proceeds go towards defraying the cost of lunch and website expenses.

We are still in the start-up phase and would be glad to see any Mid-Atlantic CP enthusiasts at the meetings, and to have you volunteer for the Steering Committee and Incorporation Search Committee.

Our next meeting will be held at Princeton University on Sat Jan 13, 2018. To get included on the email list where meeting announcements are sent out, email Kevin Z. at macpsociety@gmail.com . You do need to pre-register so we can order enough for lunch for you. Remember to bring cash or a credit card to participate in the auction.

This is the most recent annoucement:

Hello all,

We hope you'll be able to join us at the 3rd MACPS meeting on Saturday, January 13 at Princeton University in Princeton, NJ. There will be another fun set of talks, a seed starting workshop, a plant auction at the end, and importantly, details about all of our other events planned for 2018 (a field trip is in the works!). If you are interested in coming, please RSVP via this form. Please also pass the word on about this meeting to any of your friends who might be interested in coming!

The plant auction at the end is a great way to not only show off your plants, but also get some money for them. You can take home all the money you get from auctioning your plants, or choose to donate a certain percentage of the sales towards future MACPS meetings and events. We also always encourage you to bring your plants to display!

Best,

Kevin

Good morning NYCCPS,

Noticed the last post here was May 2017 and wasn’t sure if the meetings still happen or if there are any trips planned or in the works? If I need to contribute for anything I’m more then willing to. I’m in LIC near the 7.
