it is a phalaenopsis, but I'm not sure about the specific kind... I will gte a pictures soon.

I can't see what the problem is, but do see some discoloration on some leaves. That isn't uncommon, especially in a plant that might have done a lot of recent moving & sitting around in less than ideal conditions. If that new leaf looks good, then it's probably OK, as long as you aren't seeing any rotting in the older leaves. Can you post a photo that clearly shows the problem you're seeing?

In general, make sure it doesn't stay wet, don't fertilize it yet and keep it out of intense sun. Maybe that last item isn't an issue in Ottawa. I don't have time to type more right now, but you can find orchid-growing tips in other threads here.
