Congratulations! When they're happy they'll multiply pretty quickly.

Really Bruce? That must explain the groups 3-4 plants one right behind another. Spread like a strawberry, only not that fast of course! lol. Do you grow these?

I had three but made a stupid decision about over-wintering them at the end of 2003 and now have one slowly recovering plant left in it.  I use an 18" diameter basin with many holes drilled in the bottom.  Instead of burying the pot that year, I put it under a bushy hemlock and covered it with leaves.  I think it went through some freeze-thaw cycles, which are the cause of so much winter kill.  The surviving plant does have two growths this year and I hope it'll bloom again next year.

Thats what happened to my first 3 plants. I buried it, and the plants had buds, but were partially rotted in the spring and just died off. IN the ground is definetly 100% more positive success rate!!!!!

did i send you those?

Yes you did Clint! The one flowering, is one I had before though. The big leafy ones are the ones from you. They still made it however! Probably will flower next year.

fantastic! i'm so pleased they survived. the ones growing on our property are still in flower and should last a few more days at least.

i'm very happy they lived for you.

Nice Dustin! Lucky you. I'd like to have some cyps one day.

I made an amazing discovery this past weekend. I went home for a family reunion. I was out walking my dog and over on the edge of our property I was shocked to see a cypripedium! My eyes nearly bugged out of my head. It had a flower stalk but the bud had dropped (dang it!). My parent's near-acre lot is half open and sunny and half lightly wooded. Very mossy. This was growing on the woodland side, over at the edge of the tree line near to where the land opens again. Sadly I didn't have a camera to photograph it.

I wish now I'd used my phone camera.

It looks like C. acuale but I'm not positive. I made sure I showed my father and told him to PROTECT it. I've only seen one Lady Slipper in the wild and that was growing in the woods behind our house when I was a little kid. Unfortunately, in my ignorance, I dug it up and moved it closer to the house because I was entranced by it. Of course it died. But that began my love for slipper orchids.

I am very excited about finding that and hope next time I'm home to look around and see if there are any more nearby.

I wish it wasn't to hot down here in GA for those. I would love to plant some in a flower bed.
