OMG!! I love that leucophyllia....its sooo much better than the red veined variety. I want to really see if I can buy a leucophyllia with white veins...that would be perfect. This is the best sarr in my opinion. :)

Here's my S. purpurea var Burkei breaking dormancy, with a VFT Red Piranha in the background. That's a true color pic. What a red!

Love the second pic, the red/green/white contrast is cool.

I can't believe how much growth all of you have, especially Trent!!!
Here in NJ, it has been unseasonably cold. I put my Sarr pots outside about 2-3 weeks ago. I see the first signs of buds, but there has been ice on the pots/plants in the mornings the last few days. Grrr. Here is a photo of a young division of S. leuco "Hurricane Creek" and a mutt from my own seeds I think looks promising. Both inside under lights!

Is that 'mutt' an S.x excellens? If so it's the best excellens I've ever seen!

  • #31
That "mutt" is still very young (1.5 years old), but I like the colors and pitcher shape. The seed parent was excellens, but only the bees know who the dad was. I have two siblings, one looks like a typical excellens, the other much more white but a more open pitcher than this one.

Any chance of photos of them? Your plant looks quite big for 1.5 years :-O

I will have to get photos of the other 2, but not until next week. Hybrid Sarrs always seem to grow well.
Here is a picture of some 8-month-old (from germination) Sarrs. I kept the tall one (traded a piece with someone on this forum earlier this year, I LOVE this plant with nice red and white colors) and I kept the reddish one. The tall one had

8" pitchers at 8 months.

How do you grow your plants ... for 8month old plants that is massive !!

Looks more like a 2 - 3 year old plant

  • #36
I know about that method all ready, even doing that they seem big for 8months from the pictures.

Certain crosses can romp away, while others can stay tiny for years and then suddenly get going.

here's my S. purpurea x flava flower, which just happens to be my strongest smelling flower and it smells like cat pee!!!! What a deal!!!!

Woodnative...that red readii looking thing you sent me (the one you call 'Woodnative') is so nice. I'm loving it. Especially the white on the front of the lip. It's great.
