Visit to Chickering Bog, VT in July

Hi everybody,

I was able to visit Chickering Bog near Montpelier, VT in July. Great place! Tricky to get to, directions are http://www.nature.org/wherewework/northamerica/states/vermont/preserves/art434.html.

Its about 1 mile in to the bog itself. You would never know it though. The hike starts up a hill and is somewhat meandering, but scenic when it passes through some wet areas. Here's the start:

When we finally made it to the bog, it was quite beautiful. Technically, its a fen, but c'est la vie. The boardwalk juts out about 50 feet into the bog:

There are plenty of S. Purpurea Purpureas around. Here's one rosette:

And an all green form:

And finally a closeup of D. Rotundifolia:

Enjoy!

Very nice.

I, for one would love to see CP's in the wild.

Never have... :(

Nice pictures. The boardwalk reminds me of a eagle scout project I worked on, except better done! Thanks for sharing.

xvart.

Fryster...you can see similar bogs (and plants) in Michigan.
