How I grow a Heli In the Tropics Sucessfully

So I took over my H.Minor to Hawaii(my only plant I valued
and didn't want to sell). I was thinking I'd be in Heli heaven like
way up in the hills but I am in the lowland tropics.
It's 75 at night and 80F-90F in the day a "Heli Hell".
You think it is impossible to grow helis outside right ?

WRONG !

I have my H Minor outside growing and I fridge it at 45 F every night
and I have 2 pitchers(should get 2-2.5 inches tall nice for H minor)
growing in 3 weeks of it being here. It works for me,hopefully this
will help anyone who wishes to grow a heli in a hot climate :banana2:

its because you fridge it jm xDDD im sure without the drop, it would adventually be pissed o_O good job though.

What I am trying to do is spark the "Why the heck didn't I think of that"
I've never heard of anybody doing it on any CPs forums to date..

I grow mine in a terrarium with neps. In the summer, it gets into the high 90's inside the terrarium. Doesn't bother my H. minor x heterodoxa one bit. My Ceph seems to also like this condition.

I noticed that my growth slows down to nothing from warmth(no nightly/minimal drops).
Even when it was in Oregon it suffered... Generally peoples helis need nightly drops but I'm not 100% sure. I saw a huge H minor in person, the guy(Mr. Magnum) has had it for 10 years not alot of growth but yea it was growing in LL conditions :)

One thing to keep in mind is that not all Heliamphora are limited to stricter highland conditions. Some populations also occur at "lower" altitudes -- H. pulchella (minor) at 1600 m, H. nutans and H. glabra at 1200 m, H. heterodoxa at 1100 m, etc. -- and are far more tolerant of Tb extremes.

Hybrids offer even more latitude . . .

True,somewhat like N. Truncata
It is labeled Highland,Intermediate or Lowland.
I was told personally by a smaller nepenthes
nursery owner that just because they found it
there doesn't mean it is highland, lowland or
intermediate(like birds carried the seed from the original population)
So in other words some Helis that are deemed
Highland may have actually originated from an
intermediate level but every one "thinks" it is a
highland plants, but never really knows for sure what it can tolerate.

I think I've got it,I guess my Minor must not be
tolerant of what I've been giving it until the fridge treatments :)
