will tops grow back?

just got some sarracenia in, and the previous owner cut of the top inch or two of the pitchers, so no leaf at the top.....wioll these grow back? its already developing new stalks.

can you give the name? need to what kind of sarr, it is to answer the question.

Sarracenia never regrow parts of the pitcher. They just make new ones. Pitchers are leaves, and leaves don't heal. (Usually - certainly not among Sarracenia.) Your plant will grow new leaves and the damaged ones will eventually die and fall off.

It doesn't matter which sarr it is, they cant regenerate the mouths or lids if they're cut off. You'll have to wait for new totally new pitchers to grow.

can or cant regenerate

Naich, what kind of sarr did you get just interested what is its name do you know

Sarracenia x Judith Hindle-medium
Sarracenia x Swaniana-medium

so why would you cut them off?

cause 5 of the 6 are cut!!!

because they should be dormant right now and pitchers do nothing but rot and die right now. wait for spring when they start to grow again

It could also be for easier packaging of the plants, ensuring less damage, people usually do this, because pitcher will grow back.

You'll learn after a season or two - every once in a while you'll snag a newly grown pitcher and it'll tear like your last dollar bill at a vending machine that won't take coins. If the pitchers are already damaged, often it just looks nicer to give them a nice clean edge with a pair of scissors. They can't really catch bugs very well with the top cut off, but they still can take in sunlight, and that's like 90% of the pitcher's function anyways.

Yes. And with a new base too right next to the original. :)
