My Hummers giants.

JMatt

Stovepipe (The Beast) RIP My friend.
Not exactly giants at the moment, but the plants overall have tripled in size since the Spring.
It's just been too cold outside to get good shots so I did the best I could under T-5's.
There are a few baby cuttings I took in the Spring too. The one in the white pot is just too crammed and will be used for cuttings.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you like my plants.
Jeff

Imageshack changed things around. I'm not sure if I loaded these right.
Let me know if you can't view them and I will try another way.

I'm enjoying your posts recently, I've seen some of these plants at the NECPS meetings, but these are amazing.

ive been growing hummers for a while but nothing like yours, may i ask what media your using mine always fill with moss , i love the bare soil look.

I was actually about to pm you about your soil as well. If you are willing to share we would greatly appreciate it. If you don't want to blast the info please feel free to pm me. I would love to know.

Stunning plants. All grown beautifully. Your a very talented grower.

Thanks guys for the nice comments!
The soil I use is nothing special at all.
It's your basic 2 parts peat, 1 part #0 course Jersey sand, 1 part chunky perlite.
That's it. I just re potted that one plant a few weeks ago so there isn't any moss or anything growing on it yet.
I also left out the perlite for the top 1 inch. Perlite can be a pain sometimes, I like to keep it in the soil rather than
on the surface. The plants sit in trays where I water them about once a week. I just let the pots soak the water up from the bottom.
It usually takes two days and the water in the trays is gone, after about 4 days with no water I do it again.
The #0 jersey course sand is a bit finer than the #1 Jersey sand. I use it all the time for my flytraps too.
I must say that I have three separate fans blowing on the plants for lots of air movement. Two go off with the lights and one stays on 24/7.
It really helps to keep fungus's down this time of year.

Thanks for sharing that info. Your right about the fans. I have a few problems with powdery mold in the past. Tried a few different products with little affect. Added one fan blowing across them and haven't seen much of it since. I do plan on adding more, but I can tell a huge difference. They really thrive on air movement.

It seems like the simple mixes work better than all of the exotic stuff we like to use. I currently use turface in my mix but the next repot I'm keeping it basic.

Thanks again for sharing.
