Best way to label and catalogue your collection

  • #21
If I end up with a bunch of CPs to the extent I can't just remember which is which, I plan on just keeping them in alphabetical order wherever they are set up. That way I can just keep a list on my tablet with the number of each plant I have and not worry about labels breaking.

Take periodic pictures of your labeled plants. Believe it or not, the pictures and their juxtaposition with others is helpful when tags fade in the sun or go MIA.

I work at a mail order nursery and we use wrap tags and IDentipens. We use these at work for labeling the plants as well as marking them as sold.

This is the pen we use. They truly are permanent outdoors. The only thing that makes them fade is alcohol.

The trouble with tags, for me, is that when plants go out of the collection, I am left with tags without plants. When plants come into the collection, I have to scribble over old tags or buy more. Ideally, it would be great to reuse the tags. Methanol is what we use at work to remove Sharpie markings.

Pencil works great. Just get a white eraser and off it comes with no fuss. Plus unlike Sharpies, it does not fade. I like a softer lead like 2B.
