Just for the record;

The first heliamphora minor var pilosa flower has been pollinated, 5 minutes ago, for the second time, with h.minor var minor pollen. The pollen was frozen since last summer.
(By the way, no need fancy methods, just put the pollen in a saucer, in a ziploc bag, in the freezer).

The h.minor var pilosa stigma tip is already brown; thats mean its successful. I will keep adding pollen for the next few days, to be 100% sure. This will mimic whats happen in the wild with bubble bees.

Of course, the first flower will gives heliamphora minor var pilosa X heliamphora minor var minor seeds, but the main exercice here is to collect h.minor var pilosa pure seeds. So i will collect the golden pilosa pollen on the first flower, when the anthers will be ready and dry enough. The next pilosa's flowers will be pollinated with pilosa pure pollen.

Time will tell :)

Good luck! The pilosa form definitely needs to become more common, and I'd love to get my hands on one someday...

Good job maiden. Nice photo thread.

Hopefully I get flowers soon for pollen to send.

The horned heli came around fast. Looks great.
Better than I anticipated!

Still working on a true pilosa. Wistubas never has them in stock anymore.

The pilosa anthers has been collected this morning, i have 17 for the first flower. I will let them dry for the next few days and i will extract the golden pollen :)

Edit: both flowers gave me 17 anthers.

Success !!

The ovary start to get bigger! Im VERY pleased :)

I got 2 flowers on my pilosa clone A; both ovaries get bigger. The first one will be h.minor var pilosa x h.minor var minor seeds, and the second one pure h.minor var pilosa seeds. Hope the pilosa will have major influence in the crosses, i still have a lot of pilosa pollen and growing flowers hamps from pulchella[akopan, amuri], parva, hispida and ceracea.

Just cant wait!

wOOt wOOt :)

Congrats maiden!

I have a pretty dumb..errr..random question for you about heli's.. I was wondering when the pitchers die off how Do You remove the old brown pitchers from the rest of the living pitchers without disturbing the emerging new growth? I have a heliamphora minor (i beleive..or H. Heterodoxa minor) and it has some old yucky pitchers in the middle of the plant and its pushing all the new growth to the sides leaving the middle bare and ugly, do u have a special way of removing that yuck or do u just snip it and cover it with medium so u cant see it? Cause its not very attractive and since yr plants are beautiful thought id ask :) sorry to hijack ur thread with the question u can PM me if you don't wanna answer in here and clog up the thread with my off topic questions. Thanx in advance

Salut Kat :)

In fact, i often let the dead pitchers on the plant, simply because i like the 'in situ' (natural) look. I just remove them before snapping pictures :)

If you want to remove them, wait till they are totally dryed, and just cut at the base of the pitcher. Heli's pitchers dry out completely, no green left at the base, so no worry about hurting the plant.

I hope this help a bit !

Im stunned this morning..

My h.minor burgundy-black push me a flower hamp.

The tepuys gods are very good with me this summer!

Hard to see, i tryed to zoom with my cell phone. The lil hamp in the middle, kinda hard to see.

With all the pilosa pollen i have in stock, i can dream of a real nice cross :)

Time will tell !

Picture quality 0.

But the stalk is more visible on this shot.

On BBs, even the juvenile pitchers are purple. If its not purple, its not a real Pogo.

Thanks for looking :)

This heliamphora clone is very unique.
Put aside the unique 'horned' nectar spoon and the elegant pitcher style. This heliamphora is unique for the strange nectar collecting 'bubble' at the lid. The bubble is located on the left side only.

Its pretty unique, stunning and im very proud to be the only grower in the world to grow that unique plant. I will probably release 2-3 divisions next year.

That H. minor "selection 1" has some really funky colors! Also, curious, do you ever store pollen from your helis? I'm holding out hope someone does out there, as I have a H. nutans readying t flower very soon...

Yes i store pollen; right now i have h.minor var minor and minor var pilosa.

I wait folliculata pollen by mail from a friend, i wanted it for my burgundy-black. The flower will open very soon.

Congrats for your flowering nutans, but i dont know if its legal to ship pollen in another country.. You can do nutans xself.

Yes!
Its black slime mold, harmless to the plants, but so beautiful to see.

They eat dead part of the plant, and other fungus. In fact, it help the plant. Its the first time i see that in my setup. Spores was probably present in my peat.

Nature is beautiful :)

Dead helis pitchers become bendable and soft with time, specially if you grow your helis in high RH%. Just bend them a lil and cut them at the base, about 1 or 2 inches from the soil. But dead pitchers look quite nice on helis, it bring a natural 'tepuy looking'. I only trim them twice a year, when i change my setup for winter or summer.

I don't think that I've seen some of these pictures on FTC... Absolutely spectacular plants as usual! Would it be possible for you to give us some pictures of your entire setup? Plants, lights, and all other equipment?

Hello Katya, thanks for your kind words.

In fact, i have a cold room just for my plants. I control every parameters in there, like ventilation, temperatures, relative humidity and lighting. I dont have a picture of my entire setup right now, but if you have specific questions please throw me a PM :)
