Photographs 2005 season

Adding fuel to the fire, here a few more shots of S. 'Hummer's Hammerhead.'

Laura- I do not do anything special for this guy. As you can see from above, the spring and early summer pitchers are weak and floppy like most all of the S. rubra ssp. (HHH is 75% rubra ssp. alabamensis BTW). As the seasons progress, the pitcher shape characteristic of this hybrid is more pronounced. An added bonus of the psittacina influence is the ability of the pitchers to remain in good condition into late winter and early spring here in CA zone 9. All my pure S. alabamensis pitchers are long gone by that point. Give yours time to settle in and in no time yours will catch up. Enjoy!

Well KingDom... did you have to go and rub it in by posting that shrub ;) Brooks did the same thing to me when he posted his clump 'o miners. You two are posting photos of bushes not CPs.  Just teasing with you but your plants is magnificent. I really love those HHHs. They are great. So my HHH is going to turn around for me one of these days, eh. I'd like to see it more upright and less droopie. I think it is in transplant shock myself.  Seems as if anything that has rubra in it gives me trouble. I have been Super Thriving this one ever since I repotted it. Let's see what it can do once these temps level out to those which would be more seasonable. We've got a stretch in the 90's coming again for at least the next week and my babies really don't like that.

'Lady Bug' is a cutie!

I love seeing your hybrids!

The third plant looks like a nice areolata cross with a red alata.

I still think natural hybrids are the best.
