Also, I got lucky enough to find a male Chapala garter to pair with Maya, the female. He's got more noticeable stripes, not quite as blue but still very blue...and needs to take a chill pill lesson from the girl

Okay, so this first photo is not of snakes, but the toads inhabiting the yard are too cute not to share too

Recent herping trips have uncovered some interesting creatures:
Pituophis catenifer sayi by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Though I have to say, this species has been the most exciting!
Crotalus viridis by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
I've actually made videos featuring this guy, another more recent rattler found, and other animals; to see them go here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1W..._as=subscriber

And then, of course, the home crew

Such a nice snake collection! From the photos I thought the black pine snake was an indigo snake being as it is so pretty.

She's my "cheap indigo," just as dark as the all-black ones almost but didn't cost me a grand. Still has the aspect of "needs a permit to take her out of state when I move" which will cost a little more when that time comes, but as she could push between 5-7 feet long she won't be too much smaller than an indigo.

If the pine snakes, of which I have no experience, have the same disposition as their cousins the gopher snakes she is probably a sweetheart, huh?

Tsela's actually the calmest of the three gophers I have; I've heard claims that the black pines tend to have slightly more bullheaded attitudes than other species, but it's certainly not the case with her. She's puffed up and bluffed only once in the time I've had her, and the San Diego gopher and bullsnake are much more prone to bolt, San Diego much more so. Only one bite from any of them though, and that was Rebel who for some reason went into feeding mode on my knuckle one day; not defensive, but hungry.
