Corn Snakes!

  • #21
Pics will be some time coming, as not all the eggs of even the first clutch have hatched yet (and it's been a week!!!!!). However, so far 8 eggs have produced 6 amels and 2 snows, and one stillborn egg appeared to have a snow in it, sadly. Hopefully the rest will hatch soon, as they appear to be losing the blood vessels and temps have been constantly in the mid 80's, but we'll see...

And still a couple days yet before I expect anything from the second clutch.

  • #22
All eggs from the first clutch have hatched, pics will follow as soon as the last baby leaves the egg; 5 snow corns, 12 amelanistic. And, the first 4 eggs of the second clutch have hatched: one anerythristic, 2 snows, 1 amel thus far.

Wowee what a great mix. Congratulations!
:pics:

I do have pics of all the first clutch, but not the time to post them. Hopefully I'll take care of that tomorrow.

Okay, before I post the corns, an update on Bindi:

2 words from Knuckes' vocabulary: DUUUUUUUUUDE SWEEEEEEET!

Those guys are so cute! Just look at the colors & patterning. Just seeing this thread makes me want to pet my snake  no pun intended...

Nice carpet, too!

Thanks!
Out of those 17 babies, all 16 that have had their first shed have also eaten their first meal, so they're now being prepared to be rehomed.
And, only 3 eggs left to hatch from the second clutch. Surprisingly, no typical form hatchlings yet.....

  • #30
Awesome...will they keep the same colors as they are when hatched?

  • #31
Thanks for the excellent pics H! Sphagnum just has a million uses. So many new hatchlings; what are your future plans for them?

aerogrower: Not entirely. As they grow up other colors fill in; the amels will gain orange in the background between the saddles, and all of these will have yellow highlights along their necks as they get bigger. The snows can be variable, either the saddles fading or filling pink or yellowish, and the anerys will become more variants of gray than black and white.

Knuckles: as soon as each one feeds it is labeled for sale. I can't keep any more than the adult animals I already take care of, so all the hatchlings go to find new homes.

  • #33
Well, this is important news: first off, sold the first baby a few days ago, but possibly more importantly, for the first time ever every single one of the babies has voluntarily fed! Not a single refusal! That means all 31 remaining animals are ready to find new homes!

  • #34
Thats awesome
Its can sometimes be very difficult to get a snake hatchling to feed. A healthy appetite right from the get go means less work for you :-D Do you sell locally?

  • #35
I've never had experience shipping live animals, so I intend to try sticking to local only.

  • #36
I shipped an animal once, and it wasn't a bad experience, but the thought still makes me nervous, too.

Update pics! 22 babies left, still working to get to at least a third of them sold before school starts....

Down to 16 snakes. Sadly, I found one that had passed away a few weeks ago, with absolutely no clues as to why.....but the others are all doing fine

On a somewhat related note, two of them went to the high school bio room I help out at, where they have many other "friends"

Also, realized I never uploaded pics of these guys: two Nelson's milk snakes, received in trade for several plants:

Both of them are currently living at my old high school (mostly because of parental restrictions on the number of reptiles in the house), but will be back with me over summer.
