    Your soil mix could be a problem in the long run. In my experience peat base mixes dont work great for rafflesiana. They do alot better in more of a airy mix such as L.F.S

    Mostly with Hamata the upper growth is green with brownish red
    marking. For the lower pitchers when newly open will lack color, as the growth ages they will pick up a redish purple shade.

    California is to cold for lowland nepenthes growing. Warm Temperatures, approximately fifty percent shade, 60 to 70 percent relative humidity.

    I also live in CA trust me dont try it outdoors.
