The Dew Line

Looks pretty conclusive alright. How big were the plants when the experiment began? I'm guessing that several people cringed at the thought of graomogolensis plants being sacrificed for science. :-D

Just got a new macro lens for my Nikon D40. I got a Nikkor 40mm F2.8 lens. It is relatively cheap, especially compared to most other nikon macro lenses. This camera is AWESOME, though. I am a teenager, so I am not so experienced YET.

Here are they pictures of the dews, though :)

Excellent! The more photos you take, the more experienced you get :-D

Great plants and photos! Well done.

I took some pics for Mass today of my favourite D. capillaris form - Drosera capillaris "Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida, US"

They are 1.5 cm plantlets - the mature ones died after making seeds. I think they're annuals.

D. trinervia, 2nd generation (from seeds sown last year) ready for the 3rd:

D. graomogolensis. Kind of an interesting effect. Almost deleted the picture.

D. aliciae - I tried to catch the nice sparkles but the camera wouldn't capture what the eye was seeing. Maybe a 50mm lens might have worked better

D. hamiltonii - ditto

Nice plants NaN!

Drosera burmanii, unknown form, currently growing as a weed with a bunch of other stuff, in a capillaris pot.

Your hamiltonii look nicer than mine, NaN. Are they grown out of doors?

  • #109
Yes, outdoors. The climate around Albany, WA is similar to coastal California. They're outdoors year round.

Still trying to capture the sparkle. This may be a different form of D. aliciae

Playing with flash and 50mm macro lens

D. aliciae - windowsill colony
IMGP7250copy.jpg

D. graomogolensis - not bad considering I started this windowsill pot out with only 3 plantlets 6 months ago. I like the way the Sphagnum moss catches the light.

The Creature from the Big Lagoon

Drosera rotundifolia Big Lagoon, CA (thanks to Wickedthistle who first introduced these to the LACPS ages ago)

From seed they grew into this which I thinned out around the time of the 2011 NASC auction, some were auctioned off, other traded or given away. I kept one for my on collection.

biglagoondocopy.jpg

In a very short time during the summer it started cristate growth and one plant quickly turned into this mess (something temperate Drosera tend to do if you grow them long enough). The skirt of dead leaves on the bottom will give you an idea of what it looked like before it went nuts:

IMGP3675.jpg

So a couple months ago I tore it apart and kept three of the best looking divisions:

IMGP7313.jpg

Let's see if it goes cristate again this summer.

Good-looking plants, all. That is possibly the nicest photo of D. graomogolensis I have seen.

  • #112
On going projects:

D. graminifolia - starting to be identifiable as a species and more importantly rooting
IMGP7353.jpg

IMGP7358.jpg

D. graomogolensis - (and a few D. slackii) after a hiatus of several months the garden is open again
IMGP7360.jpg

D. glabripes - from seed
IMGP6623.jpg

man-made D. × tokaiensis (non-fertile) - pink and white flower forms (white flower form has not been found in the natural populations)

Hey Sundrew, they are not showing up for me.

  • #116
They're not visible to me either - but the captions certainly peak my interest.

  • #117
Darn, I linked them with Flickr, is it possible the photos are just too big?

You can't actually link the URL, you have to copy and past the IMG code...

  • #119
See this thread (which should probably be made a sticky or merged with the "Host Your Pictures Here" sticky.

Can't wait to see the photos :-D

Thanks! Finally got it :)
