Can you say.... ghetto?

Hey, whatever works right?

Gotta be better than this failed experiment:

...and this doesn't provide enough root development:

One type per tall vessel, from now on!

Looks like you're off to a great start!

what happened in the failed experiment?

what happened in the failed experiment?

Plants got mixed. Tag ID's faded. I ended up with a bunch of plants that I could no longer ID. Not all of them were like that but enough to be frustrated. I will also go through and use a paint pen on the tags.

then my pygmy compot = epic failure

i have about 9 species of gemmae all mixed together :/
lets just say i am currently getting an F in "records keeping"

I personally find that plain old #2 pencil works about the best.

Btw, I wouldn't call that set up ghetto. I'd say you're just being "green" by recycling. LOL

exactly, it's hard to find a deep pot that doesn't scale it's width! I've taken to using these awesome drink bottles that are not only deep but square!

Why not? Tall and the price is right. You could always buy some spray paint for plastic and paint them whatever color on the outside you want. You might check what the plastic is (recycle resin code should be on the bottom). #5 pp (polypropylene) tends to get brittle from UV after a year or so. An acrylic based paint would extend the life.

LOL! The 20 cups I just got from a co-worker all have the Buffalo Bills emblem on them. My wife may actually go for them!

looks like a great setup, you could always use red solo cups if you really wanted to give it that recyled look

Lynn bought at presented an early Christmas present for me. She bought a
case (32) of 9” tall plastic pots, the ones I requested months ago, hoping
to get them by my birthday (5 weeks ago), for the gemmae I was soon to be
receiving. Since nothing happened, I went ahead and scarfed up as many 32
ox beverage cups I could find and poked drainage holes in them for the
gemmae. Naturally, Lynn viewed the cups as hideous and that led to the
early present. I spent the time before work transferring what I ad into 15
pots, making a big mess in the process. Two of my cups toppled over and the
gemmae / media went all over the place. I probably shocked and killed
indeterminable amount of sprouts and buried several more in the transfer.

I have an idea for the used beverage cups, though. When I get my
Sarracenias & VFT’s back in March I will be repotting and making divisions.
I can do one plant per type. They will have more depth than the pots they
have been in.

Awesome!

I wish I had a significant other who would get bothered by the untidiness of my grow shelf and buy me things to make it look better...
