Curious..
I have D. macrophylla and D. macrophylla ssp. monantha both in flower. Is it possible to cross pollinate the two to make a tuberous hybrid?
And for future reference, is it possible to cross pollinate completely different tuberous species like erythrorhiza and macrophylla?
Mass, subspecies of the same species are capable of producing fertile offspring. As for different species, it can be hit and miss. Facotrs include how far back they diverged, whether the chromosomal number are the same/multiples/close....and then even then it might prduce weak or infertile offspring...but experiment aweay and share the results!
