showing off my first hybrids seedlings, and I have 1question

only made 2 so far and some seed pods that i have cross pollinated and im waiting for the seeds
i pollinate them by completely removing the anthers with tweezers from both flowers, then washout both flowers with distilled water and dab them with a tiny twisted up napkin to soak up the water, then i touch the removed anthers to the opposite flowers, I read that was the best way to do it on a post that came from this forum I think
anyways here's the 2 i already have started,

^this is what i germinated them in, the infamous Lowes cube of death

^ each corner had different seeds in it,
top left is xSnyderi (Natalensis x Nidiformis) X Capensis,
top right is Spatulata x Dielsiana
bottom left is capensis typical x alba, I just wanted to see what would happen

^Spatulata x Dielsiana, they seemed to be growing the fastest and i can see the differences in them already

^xSnyderi (Natalensis x Nidiformis) X Capensis, they werent growing as fast

and these are from little over a month later, may 22

^this one is getting leaf shape like a capensis where the one next to it is staying more box shaped atm, and is a bit larger you can see the difference better from the overhead view

red is the skinny leaf one and blue is the bigger box shaped one, these were the 2 most vigorous of the snyderi x capes aswell.

thats all for now, will take more in a few weeks or so, its really hard to get the camera to focus on some of the small ones
thanks for looking, if you want to point anything out feel free. and the question , where do I buy Colchicine to attempt to make hybrids fertile, and what % of it would I use in a water solution

thanks! that solves one question, and where do I buy it though? lol I don't even know the first place to start looking

awesome :) thanks

Nice work!

im especially interested in the SnyderiXcapensis cross... keep us updated! currently im waiting for my madagascariensis and capensis to flower at the same time in order to cross them

A student of Dr. Frankensnyder :mwahaha: Keep us updated on the "freaks".

If you try to import medicinal Colchicine without a prescription I think you'll end up in a world of hurt with Customs and the DHS. Not to mention at the very least you'll start getting flooded with spam for Viagra and such.

Dr. Franksnyder tried medicinal grade Colchicine on plants. He says it doesn't appear to be concentrated enough to work.

Try reagent grade stuff:

The crosses might be fertile to begin with.

will do! and gl, madagascar and capes both have a count of 40 chromosomes so that might go very well for you :p
Nice work!
thanks man! at first I wasnt sure how long they'd live but they just flourished, with the exception of some of the cape and snyderi crosses, a few seedlings didnt make it, and actually one seedling of the dielsiana x spatulata is going downward and it is one I hav my fingers crossed about because it has a fat petiole like a dielsiana but a skinny somewhat longer stem like spatulata and great color.

you can see him in the middle, hes taking a downfall and you can see how unstable it is, but I love the leaf shape and color.
kind of a downer

Yea, they just might be. I tried to chose plants with the most similar chromosome size and count from what I had that was flowering at the same time using sundewmans sheet with the drosera chromosome numbers
I'm also going to keep making batches of seeds, the more I do the better chance there will be one that is completely stable, or at least fertile
And yea I figured there might be some kinda prescription needed.. hopefully its not hard to get around.
Might not need a prescription for low dosages or something
