plants growing very long flower stems...

  • #21
As long as your temperatures aren't something like 95F, I think it's ok for your plant to stay outside. D. spatulata is very adaptable, and doesn't mind warmer temperatures. I have sundews outside that do fine despite 90+ degree temperatures and blazing San Diego sun . The only thing I do is make sure they don't run out of water by keeping them in a tray filled with one or two inches of water.

You don't need to mist or pour water directly on the plant. It is very likely you are harming the plant that way by washing off any mucilage the leaves are making, and by keeping the leaves constantly wet. As long as the soil stays wet it should be fine.

Also try to avoid constantly moving the plant around, just leave it in one spot and let it settle. Moving it around gives it no time to adapt and will stress it in the long run. You'll be surprised how well it grows if you just leave it outside with a saucer of water in a spot that gets lots of sunlight.

Lastly, you wrote porn water, lol. :jester:

porn water lol, no its very clean, but ok ill try that, i was told buy the seller not to leave it it standing water, btw does it matter where i put it related to bugs finding it?

In the condition the plant is in at the moment it is incapable of catching and digesting any insects. Get the basics right first, light and water and don't give it any more dried mealworms.

Surprisingly, a lot of sellers (especially places like Lowe's or local garden centers) don't know even basic care for carnivorous plants! :nono: That's why places like TerraForums exist.

Some CPs like to sit in water, and others don't. The majority don't have that much of a preference, and putting it in a tray is just more convenient than carefully top watering it all the time without pouring water all over the plant.

Don't worry about finding a place where bugs can find the plant; it really doesn't matter. A well lit, sunny place is the first priority. After you get it in good conditions, your D. spatulata will grow like a weed, and you'll get to post nice pictures of it everywhere. :-D

Also, this is kind of late, but welcome to the community! :welcome:
