Drosera regia

I read in the book "the Savage Garden" that D. regia literally ties itself in knots over larger prey... Does anyone have a picture of this???

I also read that S. psitticina (sp???) IMPALES victims that try to crawl out with "needle like spines" inside the pitcher...

This is a photo of the leaves from one of my plants.

Richard,

That is a beautiful picture of a beautiful plant. Thanks for showing.

Cheers

Wow, thats really cool, thanks!!!

psittacina does have long stiff hairs which interlock more than other plants, but I wouldn't use the term impale. there is certainly only one way movement!

D. regia just made it to my want list.

Richard how old is your plant and how hard is it to care of. I mean is it picky about watering, correct medium, and what not.

I wouldn't say its too dificult to care for but the plant can be very tempramental. Sometimes, just when the thing is growing nice and healthily it will just give up the ghost. Most problems of this 'spontanious dieing' occur during winter. The older the plant gets in my experience the less prone to this it becomes. I grew mine from seed. The plant in the photo is about 3 years old. It tried to produce a flower early this year but it seemed to cause so much stress to the plant that i removed it. The plant quickly recovered. I grow it in a 3 parts peat to 1 part sand mix. I keep it fairly cool in winter. If you get this plant, my suggestion to you would be to keep as many of the offspring as possible just in case!

OK........D.Regia .........#1 on Wanted Drosera list........:)Hey everyone! B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L D.Regia Richard! Man, I really want one now!

Dr. regia likes a bright, sunny plave but protect them from very hot temperatures > 35°C
They grow fine in a mix of equal parts peat and sand.
Plants grown from root cuttings are twice as fast than plants grown from seed.
root cuttings will disturv the mother plant significantly.
The flower will set the plant back, too. Only one clone is needed to produce seed.
Water the plant on the tray system during summer but keep them only slightly moist during winter.
