Speaking of gemmae!

nepenthes gracilis

Well it appears my plants have yet again produced copious amounts of gemmae once again, what a surprize

If you want some send SASE to

Dustin Truesdell
45737 Otter Street
Alexandria Bay, NY 13607

The species that are producing them now are D. roseana spp. roseana I belive, it's spp. roseana or spp. stelliflora, I'll have to check till tommorrow.

IMPORTANT

The gemmae are not ready yet but are still being produced if I recieve your SASE before hand I will hold it until the gemmae is ripe and ready for picking then send it. My advice is wait about 1 week, either way is acceptable if you want to send now, send now. I will hold it for you. Also my improved method of shipping will guarantee almost 100% safe gemmae arrival. I can accomodate probably 7 people right now, I am sure there will be ALOT leftover, but I don't like to make promises I can't keep so we are going in short bursts of people at the moment.  If gemmae fail to arrive safe contact me immediately via PM, email buddhabear@gisco.net or phone number which will be given out only on request.

Not that I am aware of. They grow in pure sand almost in the wild and the roots are quite long. I have them in 1 gallon Nursury pots BUT any pot is ok I have found, just the plants in the larger pots grow better and bigger. I would plant them in peat and sand IF you have sand, if not use crushed up perlite, WEAR A MASK , just put it in a bag and smash it with your hands, this will make a finer grade soil medium.

I think 1/3 peat and 2/3 silica sand would be better than LFS.

edit - Thanks Dustin! I've got some extra PVC pipe from my experiment (see 'custom ventilation system' in the terrarium forum). A 10" PVC pipe should be fine for these gemmae, correct?

Hmm, that would be neat! My pots are about that deep....I'd have to measure them, sure give em a try in that! They do ok in a regular pot too, just better in a deeper one.

So... did you find out if you are shipping D. roseana spp. roseana or spp. stelliflora?

thanks

Homer the plants in the pic are what you will be recieving, the D. roseana spp. stelliflora are still riping gemmae at the moment.

Just a couple of points;

1. There is no such plant as D. roseana spp. stelliflora, D. roseana and D. stelliflora are both considered subspecies of D. palacea by some authorities, including the ICPS Carnivorous Plant Database and as separate species by others, notably Allen Lowrie.

2. All the sub-species of D. palacea grow well for me in fairly small pots (3 inch) and don't go dormant in summer. I do grow several pygmies in much larger pots, but with space at a premium, I only do this when I can see a benefit.
