he has about 5 plants. if each leaf has 5 leaves, and he cut off 3 leaves on each plant, that would be 15. then after each leaf has healthy plants growing, he could take off 3 leaves off each of the 15 plants, thats 45. then 3 off each of the 45 plants, that's 135! then 3 off of every of the 135 plants, that's 405!+5+15+45+135=605!
I'm pretty sure that's right. maybe 805 plants

weel I guess that would take about a year.but think of it! that's alot of plants!

how big are your leaf cuttings now? Maybe you can post a pic? yours looks nothing like the falconeri in the savage garden. yours looks alot better, healthier, and alot redder. but in the pic it is in pure peat pellets and it looks like it isn't even heated.

oh yeah keep us posted on how they are doing and keep posting pics!

Hi!
On 28.03.2003 I started some D. petiolaris cuttings on Spaghnum and in pure water. Two of them did it. All the cuttings which failed rotted during the first week.  Next time I will bury all of them under the Spaghnum. But one of the successful cuttings was in pure water, too.

Look at the pictures:

That's fascinating. Great pics too. Thanks to everyone for sharing their information.

Hi Jan,

Welcome to the Forum, and thanks for the post about your success in budding the D. petiolaris leaves. It is good to lay to rest the myth that plants of the petiolaris complex will not reproduce by this method. Well done!!

Hi again,

if I remember properly, Peter D'Amato said propagating this fascinating sundews by leaf cuttings would be the best method of propagation. So why is there such little knowlegde about it?

good growing,

Jan

Hi, just a quick update:

My current success rate in pure water is 15 out of 20 cuttings! I pull the leaves off the plant and lay them in litte jars full of destilled water. Then I put these jars in full sun and expose them to heat, too. Works perfectly !

DO try this at home! After 1-2 months you will have LOTS of plants to spare!

Good growing,
Jan

P.S. I edited the photos in my first posting in this thread, now there are 7 pics...

Fascinating! How much more success with water did you have over the sphagnum method? 15 out of 20 is 75% success rate. Or did you drop the sphagnum method altogether?

Hi,
in sphagnum a great percentage fails due to lesser humidity. So I dropped that method. Use water instead and most cuttings will bud.
Good growing!
Jan

P.S. Keep in mind that I have only Dr.petiolaris and tried no other species of the complex yet...

Hi, a friend of me tried other species:
Dr. dilatatopetiolaris, Dr. paradoxa and Dr. petiolaris.
All worked and he had more success in pure water than in sphagnum, too.

It seems as if all the petiolaris-complex species can be propagated this way. So go and try!

Good growing/testing

Jan,
Superb evolution of propagation techniques for this Drosera complex.

I snagged a nice specimen last month for only $20. Talk about a price drop!

Can any of the petiolaris sundews be propagated from a flower stem cutting?
