Another day, another site. This is a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) near Mansfield. The Orchids on site include Dactylorhiza, Neottia ovata - Twayblade and Gymnadenia conopsea - the Fragrant Orchid

This is a self set survivor of my original collection of Dactylorhiza maculata. It settled itself into a Hosta tub and hasn't looked back.The clone is now multi-headed and a bit of a favourite of MrsG.

An early visit to this particular meadow. It puts on a very fine show of many orchids throuhout the season predominately Dactylorhiza fuchsii. These are not quite out yet ( see last picture) but I was very pleasantly surprised to see these little purple gems. Unfortunately I haven't ID'd them...
On today's ramble there were obvious signs of Dactylorhiza fuchsii. The spotty leaves were everywhere.
I present a small sample for your delectation. Give them a month and they should be putting on quite a display.
Dactylorhiza in habitat at Site 5 on June 16th 2015 Part 1 of two. The orchids are a little later this year, the inflorescences of the darker ones are more advanced whilst the paler ones are only just opening their lower flowers.

A couple of plants of Dactylorhiza fuchsii from my field trip a couple of days ago. I was using the images in my new editor ( new computer etc as the last motherboard went phut!), to get used to it, so I thought I'd post this one.
