Hello!
I am curious if there are members here that belong to an active New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Delaware carnivorous plant groups that perhaps meet periodically or semi-periodically IRL. I am from Philadelphia and was hoping to find a local CP group.
P.S. South Eastern PA carnivorous...
Hello everyone,
My name is Jeff. In college, CP's were my hobby. I still have a couple of Asian pitcher plants left on my window sill that are going great. But I left the rest of my collection to a friend after school. I think my last post on this forum was 2005!
Now I am a homeowner and...
:-D I hated to take a chance on buying these alleged Carnivores from Europe but took the gamble and won. They got here in 6 days... bought seeds months and months ago of Regia from an eBay Seller in Great Britian and it took 3 months to arrive and the Seller mailed them immediately upon closing...
Hello all! I'm Nate and I'm new here. I've never kept carnivorous plants before, but I got it in my head that it's something I'd like to try so after a bit of research I went out (to the trusty internet) and ordered myself some different Nepenthes plants. I expect they'll arrive tomorrow, which...
On Sunday, my wife & I headed out to a section of the Appalachian Trail that has some great woods & fantastic overlooks (one w/ ~300 degree vista). On the hike, we came across this beauty just as he/she was about to cross the trail. I'm not sure who was more startled ... :-O
Sadly, this...
I'm 100% new to this and I have very limited room in my yard. It's about 15' x 10' so I was thinking of getting one of these to grow my plants in. I'm thinking the winter nights are too cold here in Delaware to just leave the plant outside otherwise I would. Or am I just being over cautious...
Greenery grows more roots to absorb resources when next to ‘strangers’
Plants can't see or hear, but they can recognize their siblings, and now researchers have found out how: They use chemical signals secreted from their roots, according to a new study.
Back in 2007, Canadian researchers...
Hello From The First State, Delaware......
I found you guys (and gals) while Googling terrariums and plants....
Just to show you that I'm sort of into this here's one of my YouTube videos of my 55 gallon vivarium, completed just a little over three months ago...
Hey everyone!
Just joined the other day, college buddy of mine((EdaxFlamma)) showed me to this forum and I figured I would join. I live and go to college in Delaware((UD)), I'm a Landscape Design and BFA double major.
My interests currently reside in orchids and hibiscus, though my collection...
Anybody going to the NECPS Show in Providence at the end of this month? I think I'll be making the trek up from Delaware, and I'm starting to get pretty excited. I'm curious if anyone's been in the past, and what their take on it was.
Located in Delaware. I have a Rose Pogonia which was given to me as a gift. It was dormant when I got it, but still has shown no signs of life. I've checked the pot and the roots are still bright brown and firm. The pot is sitting outside in about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water, sharing a tray with...
Located in Delaware. I have a pair of Sarracenia on my back deck in separate pots, sitting in about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of distilled/rainwater. The area is mostly shaded, but gets an hour or two of bright, bright sun around noon every day. The two sars (Tarnok and Dana's Delight) just don't seem to...
New poster to the forum, long-time lurker. Located in Delaware. I have a bog garden which i started in April. It has about 1in of horticultural charcoal as a base layer, then about 6in of 50/50 peat and play sand, then about 1/2in top dressing of long-fiber sphagnum (still not really growing...
I have read of flytrap colonies found growing wild in Delaware. If they can tolerate Delaware and New Jersey winters and return in the wild I am curious as to why they could not tolerate a KY winter, where I live and return the next Spring. Can anyone shed some information on this? Thanks.
I just read a disturbing report stating that the federal government plans on dumping old canisters of VX nerve gas into the Delaware River starting next year. They'll be dumping 10,000 gallons/day every day for 2 years.
Supposedly, the government will contracting Dupont, Inc. to detoxify the VX...
There's this major at Delaware Valley College in southeastern PA called Zoo Science. It's very competitive, only accepting 20 people per year. I'm so happy that I was accepted, because unlike a major in Zoology, Zoo Science specifically prepares you for a job as a zookeeper or other position at...
