Is this an uncommon event? Had this thing for years and it's a first for me.

The ones I had in my frog tanks would flower from time to time. Cool plants.
 
That's a purdy plant. Just a thought though, shouldn't this be in the Bromeliad section?

I don't know.
Which is why it went into the misc. plants section.
