Hello all,

After my first year of high school, my Dad and I started work on a greenhouse. For a while we had considered building our own from scratch, but we both realized that was unrealistic due to my Mom's standards. After negotiating for a little while we decided on a Cedar Built 6x10' greenhouse. http://www.cedar-built.com/. Timelapse and more pictures coming soon. My Dad and I probably spent an equal amounts of time staining the wood and actually building the greenhouse. Since then we have purchased a heater called Dr Heater like this one https://www.amazon.com/Heater-DR218-1500W-Greenhouse-Infrared-1500-watt/dp/B00J6B2F1Q. It has functioned quite well with keeping the temps above 50 for the Nepenthes. I hope this helps for anyone who is looking at building a greenhouse, and I have to say, it was well worth it!

You're off to a good start it seems. What max temperature are you aiming for inside the greenhouse?

I'm just aiming to keep the temps above 50. The greenhouse has roof vent openers that come on at around 75-80 degrees. Haven't had to do anything more than that as the greenhouse was only a construction project during the summer. Thinking about getting a swamp cooler for those hot summer days, but we'll see! I'll aim to keep it under 90 when I can...

I see myself looking to do the same in a year and a half. Can you tell me roughly the number of hours long this project took?

Yes actually my Dad and I had a running bet as to how long it would take. I would say roughly 15 hours of building (since it was a kit) and maybe 15 more hours of staining all the wood. Not to bad, although I can imagine it would be quite the project if you're building one from scratch! Also I have more pictures to upload!
