N. Peltata PROBLEMS...

So i got this N. Peltata And when i got it it was Plain to see it wasn't doing so well... Im kinda at a loss at what i should do with this plant until the seller can respond to my emails.
So i was wondering what i should do its been about a week and I've contacted the seller repeatedly on the condition of the plant but am still waiting on a response so I'm wondering on what i can attempt to do to try and save this plant in the mean time Cause i don't think the seller will contact me back for some time....but we'll see.
Im debating on chopping the black part off and hoping itll offset or something cause the growth point is totally gone.
I think it was either burned or wet for a prolonged time..
Its now in a spot receiving 85°F day - 60ish°F night misted every few hours under a cfl .
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

:0o: If it were me, I would cut it back, Carefully inspect the cut area & cut back until you see no signs of the darker affected area.
Good luck

It looks like stem rot & may need to be stopped before gaining foothold.

The mods can delete my comment if this is offensive or anything, but seriously Kat I dont think you should grow nepenthes.

I wouldn't even attempt it. But if I were real persistent I'd go with what Knuckles said.

If the plant came from a certain retailer in Massachusetts you probably won't hear back from them, I know I didn't with my first and only purchase from them last year. It looks like the growth point has rotted. You're also likely keeping your plants too wet (misting every few hours without really excellent ventilation is just asking for problems). If you think you can excise the dead tissue, use a fungicide, and keep the plant media and foliage drier you probably have a chance as long as the rot doesn't spread to the stem and the root growth is intact. Day temperatures are also too high for highlanders long-term.

Kat, with all respect to you and your ambitions, have you actually been growing Nepenthes for very long? It seems like you've been amassing a lot of plants very quickly but also running into lots of cultivation issues. Rushing out and getting some expensive and rare plants with the collector's attitude of "I can acquire this one and this one and this one..." without developing a feel for the genus by easing your way in is certainly one way to gain experience, but not the cheapest or the most fulfilling, and I think a lot of younger growers like me also know this from experience.

Looks like a goner... Could you post a pic of your growing area? It sounds like you have them under glass with misting every few hours, do you have air circulation? I would agree your probably rotting out your plants by not letting them dry and perhaps by having poor lighting. Mist only once or twice a day if at all.

Unless the ambient humidity is 40%, there is NO need to mist Nepenthes at all, it only encourages trouble, especially if the media is already sopping wet. Combine that with low light and zero air flow, and you have a very dead plant. I agree with what everyone else said; remove the rotted tissue and disinfect it, keep the thing drier, try to start over, and hope that it pulls through. To me though, that plant already looks gone.

I've been growing neps for years, this year has been the hardest due to the current heat wave it's hotter then its ever been usually 95°F to 100°F day 90-80°F nights. My plants were moved from the greenhouse i had with a missing system a huge lighting system and a few highland tent racks and a cool tent. The rest was where i stored my cacti and succulent collection..etc..etc.. Which was vandalized and most want salvageable for the most part.
When we moved it was winter foot upon foot of snow..blah blah blah.. Lost alot of stuff that i haven't even came close too replacing. Summer came and everything had to become acclimated to the new sunporch greenhouse or theyd fry. The sunporch is still in the process of being renovated ..etc..etc..
My highlanders are on a enclosed shelve with a mister that runs on and off if the humidity drops below i think 40-50 i have a huge 250 watt CLF 1700lumen circular shaped light with reflector around the shelve and lamp. It gets 80-85°F day and 45 to 65°F night depending on how it goes.. Still waiting on a few cooling fans to drop the degrees 3 to 5°F .. It has a air exchanger hooked up to circulate the old air out with fresh air.. The set up i have is not the most fanciest but it works for the most part especially given how unpredictable the weather has been and with how much my life sucks hahahahaha!
Clue im not familiar with this MA seller youre talking about i didn't even kno we had sellers in MA that sold plants. This was from a seller I've purchased from before so never had a worry in my head theyd ship me this...err...plant in this shape. I haven't heard from the seller and don't know if they ever will but that's what happens some time.. In the mean time the Live sphag is on the drier side that the plant is potted in the plant is in a bag and only gets misted on the leaves below the black part. The plant wasnt wet when shipped but im assuming the damp napkin wrapped around the roots was shuffled around during shipping (or i hope so) and was touching the growth point for a loooong time rotting it. I didn't do this to the plant this is how it came these are the pictures I took removing it from the pkg that's why its covered in some dirt/medium or some sort. It seems to have good roots on it so im hoping itll recover and basal/offset until i can hear from the seller if they do contact me and attempt to fix the issue or replace the plant or refund the money. I'll let people kno how that goes.

It seems water is being a big down fall in plant collecting and study at the moment shipping wise.... But in my life S**T happens and in my life it happens ALOT! Its never ending.

I was gonna cut the growth point to clean tissue put some sulfur powder on it and let it sit with the other plants in attempting to basal after incidents outta my control. What fun! Thought id be growing and studying a peltata...instead I'm trying to save one..ahrg

It looks like most of the dry dead part is mostly on one leaf node and kind of inside the center of the stalk ive cut off the leaf and carefully removed as much of the center that was black and sealed it with sulfur powder..all i can do is cross my fingers now and hope the seller contacts me to fix the issue with the plant he sent me.. I'll Keep everyone updated on the outcome.

My current set up. During acclimating and now. Had to remove the over head light and the air exchanger to take the pic and i lifted the tent for the photo. I usually keep it up at night for the temp drop

I've had problems with peltata and hamiguitanensis (both from around the same sort of locations). I find that they both want high humidity, and peltata in particular loves really bright light and a warmer temperature. It seems to me like your setup, and your description of particularly high temps this year fits in with that, so hopefully it'll be the right conditions to nurse the plant back to health. That growth point looked pretty horrible - has the plant improved yet? Usually when there is massive damage like that to a growth point, the plant usually resprouts (at least from me) from a new growth point that starts on the stem just below the soil line.
