Always a newbie
About how long does the average pitcher last under good conditions?

Glider, the best answer any of us can give you is "depends on which nep." Some last almost a year, others not so much.

i think a var. of maxima last for about a year

Also depends on your definition of "last."

The lid usually dies first followed gradually by the walls (from top to bottom) until only the base is left alive.  The base can remain alive for quite some time after the rest of the pitcher is dead.

My longest is about a year (for N. maxima var. curtisii). I've had purple albos last almost as long. Most only last a couple months, though, before they start browning from the top.

N. hamata is one of the longest lived for me. Well over a year in good condition.
