Cool, will the ceph or talangensis be happy? I need a list of everything I'm allowed to have lol. Hint hint..

  • #22
Well, let's see... I'm sure differences of opinion will surface from other growers, but I'd sayyyy...

'Big Easy'
Capes
and other Cool-growing Dews that can take a bit of heat in the summer
H. 'Tequilla' and other easy Heli hybrids
The U. Bisquitmada's(spelling?) seem to like similar temps cause they flower like crazy
and Tolerant Nepenthes species that can take the cool, winter temps and won't get cooked in the summer such as: Hamata, Epipheata, Inermis as far as I know
Intemediate hybrids on the cool side like Predator, Veitchii x Tiveyi, Spathulata x Maxima, any Ventricosa hybrid and I like most of em ALOT!
And of course, Ceph's. I'd say let it get cool in the winter for a seasonal variance.
I would think all those would do well in the temps you described, the species Neps might not like the summer much, but should pull through and enjoy the winter. It probly would be best to adjust the photoperiod throughout the season though so intermidiate Neps would probly be best.

Right now the temp is like.. 74 and humidity is 95%. I took off half of the acrylic cover, so we'll see what happens with the humidity and temp. EDIT: now it's 85% humidity and 72 degrees. So far so good. It's weird putting your hand in a terrarium and having it feel cool.

Oh and hamata and inermis? Someone told me those need cooler nights. What about talangensis? I've already got a trade for that cooking up.

Well here's one room in the basement. The entire basement is big and has rooms but no walls, just like... support walls that are like.. well like basement support frames. I dunno what the real word is. OH you can see the kind of walls I mean in the pics below! Duh clint!

Don't laugh at the mess! lol

So I am going to say with a large degree of confidence that you should be able to grow any cool loving species and most any highlander except for the ultras.

Of course my level of experience is different than yours so your results may vary.

Damn! Wow thanks!

  • #26
now you are going to have to move your bedroom down there so your plants will have company ;)

Day-um.. that must be one heck of a crawl space Pyro!

Not really. Only have 2 55G a 30G a 20G long a 10g and 2 trays. One 400W HID light on a 2m track

  • #29
The temp was 65 last night, max of 70 once I took half of the acrylic off. Humidity was min of 80%, max of 89%

Wow it's the middle of May and my terrarium is 65 degrees lol. I feel like something is wrong!

Clint. Just to tell you. I am growing a ramispina outside right now and I have had it for 2 years now. I treat it just like all my other nepenthes. It is still a small thing, but it keeps getting bigger and doesn;t look like it is hurting to much from this treatment. So I think some HL are easier than you think.

  • #32
You said you can grow the cool loving plants in there but not the ultras. Is the hamata not an ultra?

  • #33
No hamata is not an ultra

THe ultras are:

macrophylla
edwardsiana
villosa
argentii
Some clones of rajah
Some clones of lowii
Some clones of aristolochioides

  • #34
Hamata is 1400-2500m and the Villosa is 2400-3200m so they do cross a little bit. I have the villosa on the way so we'll see. What is the point that makes it ultra?

  • #35
Someone just sent me their entire growlist, told me to pick through and he'll trade me almost anything for 3 of my plants. Could you tell me how these would do in the summer with a night temp of 65, day temp of 72-74?

8. N. fusca (Sarawak)
22. N. stenophylla (Bareo
25. N. tobiaca
32. N. veitchii (H/L x L/L)
22. N. veitchii x hurrelliana
24. N. ventricosa (Red) x talangensis

  • #36
ahh! get N. stenophylla! its an amazing plant...from what ive seen anyways. ive been looking for one of those for a LONG time!
What is the point that makes it ultra?
above 3000m

  • #37
Get the fusca also. I have one growing in mine which is the same conditions. I'm pretty sure it will be one of the darker kinds. Looks real nice.

  • #38
Well he said almost anything so I don't know what I can specifically have :) He seemed very eager for my 3 hybrids I had up.

  • #39
Did you get your hamata?

  • #40
Nah, he never replied but his profile says he hasn't logged on for a few days.
