Nepenthes Cutting

  • #41
This is what I found this morning.

I followed Ludwig's method of cutting away the two sides of the outer stem with a sharp knife.

Then I stuck it in a nice big ball of LFS and then buried that within my typical airy mix so as the roots grow and the LFS decays I won't have to move it.

I thought about doing that, but I've read that certain Nepenthes don't do as well in water, and I was more worried about rotting my cutting. I'll probably try the water method next time.

Now, why would you want to rot your cutting? XD

Another update. Looks like it's making normal leaves now.

Update: 7/31/08

I believe the next leaf will produce a tendril and a pitcher. The weird looking, deformed leaves have sort of grown on me. It's definitely an interesting transition from proto-leaf to deformed leaves, to normal growth.

Very good progress! Two months from the chop to being ready to pitcher.

Congratulations :). Went I get back, I'll try to remember to update.

Ok, here it is as promised. Still no roots, though, but I'll wait.

cool, I want to do a cutting again but both of my tries with ventrata and ventricosa failed so, I will wait until I see the nodes on a vine before cutting it since both of my cuttings were from immature plant stems.
