I got this plant by accident a few months ago labeled as N. glabrata. I was kind of disappointed, but as it turns out it's a really beautiful species. This is one of its fist pitchers (with teefs)

Beautiful plants and animals. What in the world is that lizard(???)? i've never see one before.

Oh man!
How'd I miss this?!
Your collection is so healthy and vibrant and made of awesome!!!
And gorgeous!!
And your axolotl is a sort of cute I can't begin to handle!
My friend was going to get one until she realized they ate bugs and she couldn't deal. I've always wanted one but I'm no good with amphibians- so I'll stick with large constrictors

All of your plants look terrific! The maxima dark is SO dark, love it. I love seeing other people's spect x talangensis too, yours has great color, it makes me want to get better lighting on mine.

and what a nice pitcher that hamata came with! I'm jealous.

But cutest of all is lancelot. :p

What in the world is that lizard(???)? i've never see one before.

It's not a lizard, or a reptile, it's an amphibian, a type of salamander actually, and specifically a species that does not usually come out of the larval stage.

Always wanted one! Yours looks great.

Dionae: Thanks! Axolotls are actually a type of amphibian. The red fluffy things are gills, and his tail (which you can't see in these pictures) resembles that of a tadpole. They are related to salamanders. Actually, except for the pink coloring, this is the way regular salamanders look before they metamorphosize. Unlike salamanders, however, axolotls (usually) never undergo metamorphosis. They also have the ability to regenerate lost limbs and organs.

i<3carnivores: Thank you! The one year aniversary of my Nepenthes addiction is this month, and it seems that all of my CP dreams are coming true! :boogie:
Snakes are definitely awesome too, btw--my Ball Python Eugene is watching me type this right now :0o:

:pics:

My dearest Sheba-kun would be out spyin' on my typing, but she's actually on her heatpad for once and I don't wanna discourage that, lol. Plus it's almost time for dinner and they don't like her at the table ;P

And congratulations on the neps!!! Success is always a good thing, and they are SO beautiful , you've done excellent!

Dex: Thank you! I actually like the way your spec x talangensis looks with lower light...it's all red and awesome. I'm probably going to have to get trade away the maxima next spring before I go to college, because it's getting way too humongous. Most of the other stuff is small and will be for some time, but it seems maxima knows no bounds.

He's an Ambystoma mexicanum which stays in the larval stage permanently. They're so cute and neat--I definitely recommend getting one in the future if you have a chance!

i<3carnivores: I loled at the owl

He be sneakin':

amazing collection! N. spectabilis North Sumatra has wonderful color. And the animal, Wow! My first time to see this. Amazing

Can you give more pics of the axolotl Lancelot? Especially the whole body and close-up of his head. Is it expensive? And is it difficult to breed? Thanks.

Awwww he's a lil cutie! :awesome:
And you have him on the same cypress stuff I have Sheba on (although that's just temporary until I can get my mitts on her usual coconut husk chips). And those rock waterdishes are so pretty- I had one ages ago! But it it wastes space and I honestly don't know where the one I had went =\
This is Sheba, if you've never seen her lurkin'

I think you just need oodles moar pics of everything! Plants AND Pets :3

You're making me feel like i'm being scolded by my science teacher for not paying attention:p. Learn something new everyday...thanks!

Well, it is a beautiful amphibian:D. I used to own a chinese water dragon and a few leopard geckos. The geckos would regenerate their tails but they would grow back all grotesque looking. I don't know this from experience but i've seen a few regenerated tails and they weren't pretty. Nice job with her!

LOL! Sorry I can be an old hag sometimes. I've been an amphibian nerd for years, and have heard that lizard line too many times. :p

I forgive you.

wow.. I didn't realize the level your collection was at. Very nice!

Your plants look fantastic. Such vibrant colors. I like the spec x tal best.

Yay you have gorgeous plants, and cute critters to boot!

  • #15
That is a way cool axolotl

  • #16
Awesome collection, neps and axolotl both :)

Now I'm thinking how cool it would look to have a big axolotl tank (part land and part water) with plenty of CP planted in it.

Zhilin: They're not expensive at all. On the caudata forum members are constantly giving away the babies and eggs of their axolotls. Shipping is expensive, but the axolotls themselves are often free. Based on the number of offspring up for adoption, I'd guess that they're pretty easy to breed.

Here are a few more pics. These are the only other pictures I've got right now, but I'll start a thread in the future with more current pictures.

i<3carnivores: Awww! Sheba is a cutie :D
And of course this won't be the last you'll see of all my jungle critters! More pics to come :)

dionae: Yeah, I've got a leopard gecko too, and I've seen what some of their regenerated tails look like (luckily, mine still has his original). From what I've read, it's not in the same league at all with what axolotls can do. Apparently, axolotls are so good at regenerating without any lasting deformities that scientists are currently studying them to see if they can't apply their abilities to human medicine. I love spreading cool axolotl facts :-O

Mass: Thank you!

nightsky: Thanks! I got lucky when I bought that spec x tal as a noob last year. I had no idea it would end up so beautiful.

Thez and Jim: Thank you!

Dboeren: That would be a super awesome combo. Although, despite the legs, axolotls can't actually go up on land. Even then, the juxtaposition of two of the coolest organisms in the world would be great.

hahaha nice one Dionea!

OMG that axolotl is a monster. I love them so much. It makes me want to get one. But I could probably settle for a tiger salamander or something I can grow carnivores with.
