A Few Humble Pictures From My Growrack

  • #21
Did your mirabilis x tobaica make it? I've had several look just like that one, and each one that did ended up dead no matter what I did to try to save it. Anyways, your plants look great, keep it up!

  • #22
Sadly no, it is the first nep I've managed to kill. I have no idea where I went wrong either!

  • #23
like the spec talang

So I did some tidying up of plants, got some cuttings under a much needed humidity bag, and did some rearranging today. Figured I'd snap some photos of the plants to share while I was at it!

A cutting I got a few months ago, lost the tag, will probably have to wait for some pitchers to form...it has nice looking leaves and is a healthy green so far though:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318708026/" title="DSCN0579 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7244/7318708026_664473d5bd.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0579"></a>

Spectabilis x Talangensis getting bigger and bigger, no pitchers recently but the humidity has also been low since I moved the enclosure and don't have a humidifer going, has a nice basal forming too:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318704190/" title="DSCN0578 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7227/7318704190_b466c66dc4.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0578"></a>

N. trichocarpa, has yet to form a pitcher in my care but putting out big, good looking leaves, I'm happy to wait!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318699888/" title="DSCN0577 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7071/7318699888_1edb8d4fa6.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0577"></a>

N. albomarginata, seems to be doing ok, thoughts?
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318696010/" title="DSCN0576 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7238/7318696010_ae1e6fe654.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0576"></a>

The 2nd nepenthes I owned. N. Miranda I got as a rooted cutting from Kristoff a year or two ago, just keeps looking better!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318692404/" title="DSCN0575 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7217/7318692404_154006e63a.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0575"></a>

An unrooted cutting I received maybe 4 months ago, I think it is through the rough patches and is on its way to doing well. Think it would be alright to throw this on a window sill now? It has been in a relatively dry, but low light environment:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318688538/" title="DSCN0574 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7085/7318688538_96309a7c2b.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0574"></a>

Utrics, mostly from Tony, but a few more recent added in. Seem to be doing alright so far!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318684542/" title="DSCN0573 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7085/7318684542_2864b8a0c4.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0573"></a>

Unknown N. hybrid seedlings
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318679732/" title="DSCN0586 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7094/7318679732_25cdce6034.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0586"></a>

Different batch, maybe a year old now:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318675600/" title="DSCN0585 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8145/7318675600_e045c5989f.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0585"></a>

N. tenuis? hybrid...in the less than year I received it as an unrooted cutting it has become my largest plant, think this one can be moved from the rack to a sill? Just getting so dang large!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318671690/" title="DSCN0583 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7078/7318671690_1a40d461cc.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0583"></a>

N. sib. x coplandii, I posted about this recently. It's main growth has never looked too healthy, always on the brownish side, and getting smaller and smaller. but iwthin the past month or two it has thrown up 3 vibrant looking basals, withj possibly more hiding underneath. Thoughts?
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318667958/" title="DSCN0582 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7212/7318667958_daec50501d.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0582"></a>

Reliable N. mirabilis, chugging along!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318663618/" title="DSCN0581 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7084/7318663618_aa86ab9916.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0581"></a>

Some SG N. albomarginata I was lucky enough to receive a year or so ago in a giveaway, looking awesome and putting out sizable pitchers compared to the leaf size!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7318659778/" title="DSCN0580 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8147/7318659778_4e72e7f097.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0580"></a>

Hope everyone enjoys the pictures! I always appreciate input and advice!

Did some planting and gardening today, thought I'd snap some pics of what I have growing this year! All the peppers were started from seed and were moved outside a few weeks ago!

Santana Hot Peppers:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7323342866/" title="DSCN0592 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8012/7323342866_1d227b61f4.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0592"></a>

Gypsy Peppers (Got these from the local garden shop a week ago):
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7323354968/" title="DSCN0588 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7087/7323354968_20cd53f05a.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0588"></a>

Singleton Ghost Pepper, really hoping this guy makes it to fruit!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7323360648/" title="DSCN0589 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8141/7323360648_ec2ba6e2a6.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0589"></a>

Some pepperocinis:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7323366772/" title="DSCN0590 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7077/7323366772_78774c4156.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0590"></a>

A row of leftovers of various types, I have some chocolate habeneros in there that managed to outlive their pot designated brethren, hoping these last few make it!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7323372950/" title="DSCN0591 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7239/7323372950_56f4abdc11.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0591"></a>

And finally, I received various houseplant cuttings fro ma generous forum member a few months ago, I threw most of them in 1 pot, and it is going crazy!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7323348936/" title="DSCN0587 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7238/7323348936_3e1e7e502c.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0587"></a>

So, burning, burning, fire, burning, burning and cute flowers? haha! :p

  • #27
So here are a few succulents I received as cuttings a few months ago that were UnID'ed at the time...can anyone help me out with what I may have here?

First one, I had thrown it in with some dragonfruit I'm still waiting to grow, does the dragonfruit look salvageable still?
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7356128414/" title="DSCN0594 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7083/7356128414_dc3e0061b0.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0594"></a>

Two Different cuttings growing together:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7170911369/" title="DSCN0593 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8164/7170911369_03cf9bc659.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0593"></a>

And a few extras...first, a drosera that got cooked in the mail about a month ago, throwing out 3 plants from the ashes:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7170908519/" title="DSCN0599 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8014/7170908519_19baf9b950.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0599"></a>

An obligatory pot-o-capensis!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7356119676/" title="DSCN0595 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7220/7356119676_0277bc97b1.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0595"></a>

  • #28
And a rare daisy-flowered D. capensis at that!

  • #29
Two houseplants that my mom got from the people who take care of the plants at her office. It was almost dead and they were throwing it out. I pretty much keep it heavily watered and it is huge now!
Any I.D.?
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7696054116/" title="DSCN0615 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7254/7696054116_f3ebef8b85.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0615"></a>
Also, I finally noticed the new roots on the underside of the pot when I picked it up to photograph...

A few quick pictures.
Ran errands with my dad yesterday, we were driving by an Ihop about a mile from home that closed down last month. My dad spotted a planter they had thrown by the dumpster, so we pulled over and grabbed it. Plastic, but looks nice and full of usable soil. Now to find a large plant to grow...
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7743931422/" title="DSCN0618 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8441/7743931422_bafd01ea57.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0618"></a>

Plants I got from Noa. Bagged em up, any other suggestions on acclimating?
N. maxima, N. vent. x pect. N. truncata x maxima
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7743920152/" title="DSCN0622 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8290/7743920152_d970585f7d.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0622"></a>

Some mutt seedlings, I think it might be time to separate. Never done this before, advice would be awesome. They have a lid on 24/7 just took it off for pictures. Haven't been fertilized or fed ever. I have another container of them too, would also be open to trade some off :)

Repotted the mutts tonight, hopefully I didn't damage em too bad..just in shredded LFS.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7750417246/" title="DSCN0623 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8437/7750417246_6feefa4849.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0623"></a>

Anyone know what I'm growing here? It was a LFS attempt...but I'm thinking it isn't?

Yeah I think it's sphagnum alright, looks like it's a bit far from the light source.

  • #34
Thanks, it was like that forever on the back of my rack, recently moved it to the window sill

HI all, an UNID'd nep is finally putting out its first pitcher in my care, was wondering if anyone could help me out on it?
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/7925897682/" title="DSCN0630 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8456/7925897682_6973c9faeb.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0630"></a>

And some bromeliad's I got as a throw in, wondering if they are doing ok? Just been misting every day or two, in mainly peat.

So I got time to snap a few pictures today...then the batteries on my camera died, but I'll post the few I got!

My New HO T5 fixture illuminating the grow rack:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/8277545131/" title="DSCN0661 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8495/8277545131_cb137989c7.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0661"></a>

And after about a week, all those green seedlings have turned a deeper red from it, so I *think* they are enjoying it.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/8278601092/" title="DSCN0662 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8199/8278601092_0ffb2beb23.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0662"></a>

I'll replace the batteries and get some more pictures soon!

A few pictures and a question as usual!
I'll start with the question. Below are some pictures representative of about 6 species of nepenthes seedlings I have. They've recently been moved off their heat mat and nearer some lights. I'm wodnerign what the next step is. Do I need to transplant them into something other than coir anytime soon?

N. amp

And now just some pictures!
The window portion of my collection, they sit right behind the rack and do get some light off the T5s. A lot of these are working on some nice basals!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/8421415015/" title="DSCN0672 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8089/8421415015_b63e1e54a8.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0672"></a>
Some basals from the Maxima x Truncata I got a few months ago!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/8422510170/" title="DSCN0670 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8225/8422510170_9b3637cf90.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0670"></a>
Two utrics really enjoying the T5s!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/8421415759/" title="DSCN0666 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8335/8421415759_b325b9cb5b.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0666"></a>
Some nep seedlings and some cotton seedlings in the foreground!
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/8421416041/" title="DSCN0665 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8494/8421416041_47e6e17bf5.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0665"></a>
N. kampotiana that has turned a nice red since being put under T5s...was completely green before.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugh-jass/8421416403/" title="DSCN0664 by kwalton, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8504/8421416403_26d495d101.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0664"></a>

Hope you all enjoy em!
