Fantastic plants! How do you maintain high humidity on a windowsill?

  • #45
I don't haha. I try to spray whenever I'm home and that seems to help a bit. At night the cool air can come in and it gets up to 80% (but usually around 50-70)

  • #46
great update bro!!!! the lil seedlings are so cuteeee :D

if they really are jambans, you got it made in the shade my friend. you could trade em for some real nice plants once they are a decent size :) iv seen 4 inch plants go for 100

  • #47
I know that's what I was planning on :mwahaha:
Naw I'll probably keep two (if they're different enough) then probably trade the rest. I think one is already spoken for.

  • #48
in that case im getting in line behind him/her XD hopefully i have something you want when the time comes :)

A small update on my setup since I've moved things around.

I noticed at this angle the peristome glows orange and is iridescent. Easier to see the stripes too. Very cool in person, kinda lame photo tho.
S6301103.jpg

I love this plant, but it barely gets any attention from me. Vent x sib. I've noticed mine to be very finicky with the tendrils. Too close to the dirt? Dead. Rubbed against it once? Dead. etc

  • #50
Youre telling me! Vent x sibu hates me i have better luck with sibu x vent. Both plants are vining now but not even a single upper although the teldrils do loop! Do you think i should let it loop around something or what?

  • #51
Yeah maybe, I've heard that if they can grab something they tend to produce that pitcher. But I have no vining neps yet so I can't give real advice hah.

  • #52
Whats the nep in the fourth pic? I likes it :D

  • #53
Great plants, roxor!

As for the vent x sib, I find that my sibuyanensis will not pitcher unless the tendril is able to really bury itself in something. I usually create a very thick layer of sphagnum in its pot and the pots around it, just so that can happen. Not sure if your vent x sib cross is the same, but perhaps it's worth a try.

The picture with the iridescence? That's the Song of Melancholy.
Interesting yeah I've heard that too. Trouble is I don't have any moss to give it, and all of the tendrils it makes just hang out of the pot into the air. It has another pitcher en route so we'll see if it keeps going or just aborts.

  • #55
Hmm i should try that

I was on vacation for a week and told someone to water my plants I left behind. Well, he didn't but they're all okay anyway (sorta dry tho). Anyway this is what some of them did while I was gone.

Sib x cope popped, looks good.
S6301135.jpg

These didn't die. In fact they look pretty huge so that's good.

New inermis
S6301131.jpg

WOWW First 'Gothica' pitcher in a long while and it made this monster. Like 6in high!
S6301123.jpg

S6301125.jpg

S6301137.jpg

What are we calling this? inermis x ?? colored up looks amazing.

S6301136.jpg

S6301128.jpg

S6301127.jpg

I thought this was cool. It's my derpy orchid with one good leaf and it decided that 7 or 8 flowers was a good idea.
S6301141.jpg

Four opened so far.
S6301142.jpg

I think that's it for now. But next time...
S6301138.jpg

  • #57
beautiful plants :) I wished I could grow an inermis on my window l0l

  • #58
Nice. I grow all my neps at windows too, so it's nice to see other people's results. And just today I noticed my paphiopedilum is sending up a stalk.

'Gothica' wooo
S6301166.jpg

Cephalotus has a new growth point and looks bigger. Can we hope for mature-ish pitchers?
