Nepenthes rafflesiana Appreciation Thread!

  • #21
What temps are the minimum for raffs?

I would say 60-65F at the absolute lowest if it's sustained. But it can survive drops to the 40s for brief stretches. I would keep the lows to 65-70F for optimum growth. It can easily survive upwards of 100F.

Thanks. :)

Get one! They're AMAZING!

Will think about it....

I just want to say, Red Dragon, that the last pitcher is epic. It's just amazing. I like it because it kinda reminds me of the Red camo in Call of Duty lol

Divaskid, we skipped over you! I love the teeth on the first raff and the purple colors of the second. I would say the second was a typical, but a very nice one at that.

Divaskid's second raff almost looks like raff. var. elongata or as some of you people call it N. baramensis

I don't think it's nearly tall enough. And elongata pitcher openings are more perpendicular to the ground.

I find that N. rafflesiana is fairly tolerant to cool nights (low 60's) as long as the day temperatures are at least in the low to mid 80's (a little warmer would be even better). Cool day and night for prolonged periods more than a few days at a stretch = bad

Wont work for me. my nights are down to the 50s even in summer.....

I haven't gotten to experiment with its toleration of cold as much as its toleration of heat. In my terrarium it reached about 105F and 100% RH this summer, yet my raffs were still going strong. I like to keep them at about 85-90F during the day and 65-75 at night. I aim to make some of them houseplants, seeing if they can handle prolonged periods of Intermediate conditions.

My Rafflesiana can take 50 F for long periods (1-2 months) no problem, it's actually one of the hardiest plants i have. However, I did start having problems with it when temps dropped to 40 F.

Out of all my Neps my rafflesiana does seem to be the hardiest one. I don't know much about nepenthes and I just try to keep my lows humid and warm and give my highs cool at night. I've had quite a few incidents that have set my plants back. Mostly from my going on vacation and my friend didn't take care of them like I asked, but out of all my nepenthes my raffesiana never dropped its pitchers. I was wondering about the humidity. Id like to make this more of a window sill plant but here in Kansas its not very humid. Whats the lowest humidity these can tolerate and still grow well?

i wouldn't ship cuttings this late in the year... wait til spring, but we've had a warm snap here recently so maybe they'd be ok ???

They'll probably be ready to be chopped up by next year. We only have that one pitcher on the giants as of now, but that really tall cutting is trying to explore all corners of the greenhouse. The laminas are so long! Depending on where I am in the Spring I'm going to be giving them some special treatment to speed up their already fast growth.

little late to the party but blame the baramensis

Here's a young giant clone 88. As you can see, even the leaves are red on this one...

Nice plant you've got there CpBobby :)

appreciate it. the pitcher is a little small for the size of the plant but i suspect the new one it is working on will be much larger.
