Nepenthes burbidgeae

I mentioned some time ago that I received a couple of sickly N. burbidgeae that looked like they had been neglected receiving little water and the growth tip had apparently died. I stuck it into the back of the rack to see if a new bud would appear and it has............along with some other bizarre looking tumorous looking bulge resembling one of those pods from the 1979 movie Alien that the face-grabbers burst forth from.

The new growth points are looking good and getting larger by the day, that fern growing alongside appears to have come from the green snot looking algae I have been complaining about.

fern spores germinate in very wet environments. I would pull the fern out before the roots entangle everything. looks like star moss, i hate that stuff I try and pull it out and replace it with sphagnum when i can but it just keeps coming back.

After a fern spores take off they produce a thin shell like structure at soil level that seems to be accompanied by green algae. The shell looks nothing like a fern leaf at all but then a few days later the first fern frond appears from the center. Maybe it's time to educate myself about ferns.
