What sorcery is this? It is doing an ampullaria? Some are from the vine behind, but at least one is straight out of that tiny rosette...

I don't grow gracilis (didn't find plant, seeds never germinated), but none of the pics I've seen are like this. this is incredible. If you don't mind, can you post another photo showing what is going on?

  • #284
N. gracilis does the same thing ampullaria does, just isn't as famous for it. Same with gymnamphora and its relatives, weda, danseri, and a few others. Some papers refer to it as a "nanophyll rosette"

Received 4 cuttings from another member on here, and the first decent pitcher finally opens on one of the two that I am keeping (all 4 have rooted though :) ). This promises to be a much more flashy clone than the one I had previously years ago:
N. robcantleyi x maxima BE-3428 by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
And, freshly repotted, I'm hoping for some of the merrilliana size to kick in on this plant. Traits of the other two parents already shows.

This one develops darker stripes (probably would be darker still if it wasn't on the shady side of the shelf), but new pitchers are very green.

N. mirabilis globosa by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
Probably the last pitcher from this plant for a while unfortunately; the next 3 have come out terribly deformed, and though the now-dead thrips might have been part of it I don't think that was the whole cause yet...

Finally, been waiting for so long for this thing:
N. lowii x campanulata by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr
To flower! Still hoping I might snag some pure hamata, edwardsiana, or perhaps one of the "toilet" type like jacquelineae, jamban, etc. pollen for it, but I've managed to get quite a line-up already so good things are on the way.
