New Species d

Hi,

Thought I would share with you a photo of a relatively new
species which I have been growing for some time. This one
is quite remarkable, and the attached photo does not do it
justice. The pitcher shown is not quite as fully developed
as future ones will be; the peristome should become about
twice as wide as seen here. Still, a very lovely species,
at least in my humble opinion!

N. platychila is an intermediate grower, I believe, and has done
quite well in my highland environment. Most folks who can
grow N. lowii, or N. glabrata should have no trouble with it,
and it may tolerate warm nocturnal temperatures even better
than I am guessing. I don't know for certain, for I've no desire
to test its limits!

Wow. Nice. Looks like a realative of N. jacquelenae.

By the way, if you say that it grows well beside lowii and glabrata, why did you refer to it as an intermediate grower? To me that says much warmer nights that lowii (which I would call a highlander).

I indicated it as an intermediate due to what I know of its
altitudinal distribution (which is little). However, I grow it
alongside NN. glabrata and lowii. Hence my reference to
those particular species. Moreover, as I said, it can probably
tolerate warmer nights.

Very nice. It's kind of strange that several of the fairly recent(last few years) discoveries have a flat "horizontal" peristome, with this one, N. jacquelenae and the new one Andreas has from Sumatra. What's up with that?

Regards,

Joe

Nice! I love the flared and striped peristome.:)

Glad you all like it! I've seen pictures showing the
peristome when fully developed, and it's quite amazing.
I'll try to post a picture of such a pitcher as soon as
I have one to photograph.

In the future, I hope to have cuttings of this species
available for trade for other rare Nepenthes.

It is presently a decent-sized plant, and I've had it
for a while.

For another look at the plant and its relative size, check out this link

The pix was taken during a JCPS tour to Malesiana Tropicals.

Doesn't it look like another new undiscribed nepenthes from Sumatra in wistuba.com.
