well i went back to Orchids limited today.....checkbook took a $110 hit but i made it out alive. well i got to chatting with the owner about some of the Neps he has growing on display in his main retale area including the one that iterested me the most which turned out to be a 25 plus year old FEMALE "highland" vetchii. well push came to shove and i walked out with a foot and a half section of vine staked into a pot of damp high grade LFS
it cost me $50 but im EXTREAMLY happy. swords, you were right, the regular lil neps he has for sale are from an outside producer. although he bought it as a highland its been growing in a pretty warm section of his greenhouse. it has the striped peristrome that i like versus the more or less solid gold one i see on most of the "lowland" ones offered for sale. the guy must have had all 20 or so "display" neps bloom at more or less the same time and he did NOTHING with them
oh well. i guess my question is how well do vetchii root from cuttings? they said they have had real poor results with truncata(you have to see that plant if you are EVER in the Minneapolis area, i swear the pitchers are 18 inches tall) he dusted it real well with rooting hormone. the vine is about as thick as my pinkie finger.
anyways the other $60 went to 2 orchids ive been looking for, Stanhopea nigro violacea and Sedirea japonica, along with a 4 inch pot of Vanda coerulea for Darla.
