very nice pictures as always. That ovata is ginormous!

But one question;

wheres the pics of your two merrilianas?!

The N. ovata is absolutely stunning! Good job, and thanks for sharing again!

Oh yah Jess....I thought I forgot something! lol I'll get one today.

Hi Dustin
Fantastic looking plants there. The inermis is growing well but the Ovata is a monster, how old is it and is it a specific clone?
bye for now julian

Hey Julian, well, I've had it for 2 years in the greenhouse, before that it had to have been growing with Tony for another year at least. So I'd have to say at least 3 years old. I don't think its a specific clone...just from Malesiana.

Dustin, your inermis is inspirational!

Is that the one you put in an ephytic hangin basket?

Very cool stuff, Dustin.
I assume the N. spathulata just opened? Otherwise the peristime would be red(unless you have some kind of all green clone). If I can every obtain or borrow a camera, that would be the first pic I would take of my plants.
I would agree you have the happiest inermis around.

Cheers,

Joe

Some more pics:
For Jess!

N. merrilliana red

N. merrilliana typical

Dave, uh, nope thats in a typical plastic pot...only things that are in epiphytic baskets are highland truncata and an N. veitchii that is getting ridculously large! lol

Joe, yes that N. spathulata takes a good few weeks to color up...the top, if you look back at the pic is just starting to get that metallic red hue to it, I have an older pitcher is is fabulously colored, but smaller than the big one there.

And for fun, guess this one!

Hi Dustin
Wow that merri red is bright, does the pitchers also go redder than the typical one?Out of all my neps i find the leaves hug the pot so closley that its hard to get water round it sometimes. Any photos of pitchers on the merrilliana?
Bye for now julian

I like the way that all red merriliana looks, I'm going to have to pick one of those up some time.

I'm going to say that pic is of a N. macrovulgaris

Dustin,
Fantastic as always! Your inermis is the standard by which I measure them, and your N. ovata is the largest I've seen. Keep it up!!!

which merriliana is a faster grower? the typical or the red?

My typical is amoung my fastest pitchering neps.

  • #16
Your very lucky Flip_Side_the_Pint, my merriliana hasn't pitchered yet, although it has a basal shoot ^_^ Nevertheless, I'm proud of my non-pitchering merriliana!

I think the key to it is good light, don't move it, feed it alot, and consistant temps.

I'll snal a few of it and post it up later today...

Oh man!  Now I need to add N. ovata to my list of neps I need to purchase. Nice looking plants, as usual, Dustin.

Chesara, the red N. merrilliana does have a different coloration on the pitchers, I'd love to show you some but they are still in "winter mode" but shortly, should begin to pitcher again.

Jess got the plant right too, it is N. macrovulgaris, wasn't too hard, but I've had people confuse it with N. mindanoensis before.

Max, I hated to post the N. ovata pic after you posted yours, but I couldn't resist not being proud of it and showing it off!

Jess again, lol, the red merrilliana is w/o a doubt slower.

And thanks to EVERYONE for the wonderful comments and taking some time to enjoy the photos!
