Thanks for sharing all the information.

BTW...what causes all the variations in color? Is it genetic and unpredictable or does the variance come from growing conditions (light, etc.)?

The answer is "yes" to both questions. If grown bright, they will have more intense color, but up to a point. There are green yellowish and pink forms as well as the red to purple forms. That's the genetic part. Viking is proving to be a variable species (if its a new species), like ampullaria and rafflesiana. Only thing we have not seen is spotting. All the colors have that 'airbrushed' look.
