Replacing fluid?

This might be a silly question, but, it's never happened to me before so....if all of the fluid is accidentally spilled out of a pitcher, should it be replaced with distilled water, or will the plant produce it on it's own? Will a pitcher die without fluid in it?

Put a little distilled water in it to make sure it doesn't dry out.
