Life span of utrics

The Obsessive Gardener
:0o: Hi:

I am loosing most of the utricularias I purchased 18 months ago. Unfortunately, due to physical problems, they were not put outside this past summer.

Do these plants have a natural life span? If so, how long?

It could just be that they need to be repotted, because after a while they seem to 'exhaust' the soil, and it becomes sort of decomposed, and they don't do too well. That's happening with some of mine.

Also, they sometimes need to be divided, because otherwise, they might become rather crowded.

I carefully repotted these plants in October. Used spaghnum moss and swimming pool filter silica sand. I distill water for them as needed.

Well... no. They don't. Theoretically most of them can grow forever as long as conditions are right.

The thing with utrics is that if you have a 5 foot by 5 foot patch, it could be one single plant or a hundred. They spread and don't have leaves or roots, they have stolons.
