Was the fly still alive? It doesn't appear that any of the body parts are actually in "digestive" cavity so the trap may open in the "nothing to digest" mode and release the fly
Mine was not alive when I found it. Not sure about Jeremy's. It is coincidental that it happened around the same time as the CPN photo. But anoles and geckos frequently fall prey to my plants.

The night lizard from the old pic I posted had already been sealed in the trap and wasn't moving. Here's another old pic, bet you didn't know fly traps chewed their food:
