VFT's do well in long fibered sphagnum (LFS), also known as "orchid moss". I would put a layer of LFS at the bottom and add another layer of sand (pool filter is good) and a good top layer of more LFS. They need good drainage.
My Dionaea soil preference is a 1:1 mix of sphagnum peat moss to horticultural sand or a 2:1 mix of the same. I have noticed little difference between those two.
