Reminds me of the deformities which occur in aloes infected by aloe mites.
 
That is pretty freaky! Due to hormones or radiation perhaps?

Beats me. Flytraps outdoors for me grow like gang busters for 3-5 years and then start doing the "Incredible Shrinking Dionaea" bit. It could be salt accumulation that judging from the corrosion of any exposed metals sea spray may be a factor. I change the media annually and flush out the water trays. I suspect the mild summers I've been having the past 8 or so years might have something to do with it.

Could be nefarious insects. Could be results of spraying with systemic insecticides for the persistent mealybugs.
